NEW! DOE Instructor-led and Online Math Courses Available!

The Office of Early Learning has developed a series of four new math courses. They are designed to assist VPK and other early childhood teachers in understanding the importance of intentional math instruction. Each course delves into specific math concepts tied to the mathematics standards for four-year-olds. We recommend Math 1 and Math 2 be taken in order and as closely together as possible. Math 3 and Math 4 will be available as the year progresses.

FREE Mind in the Making Workshops

The Early Learning Coalition is a proud member of the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. Through the generosity of The Patterson Foundation, community partners have been trained to offer a series of workshops on building executive function in children. Sessions are 2 hours each, and are offered weekly or bi-weekly FREE of charge. We must have a minimum of 15 persons register, with a class-size limit of 20. This course is for caregivers, parents, teachers, principals, community stakeholders – anyone who is interested. Mixed groupings are best. If some of your staff are interested, perhaps have each invite a parent or two to join the group. For general questions or to schedule courses, please contact Pam Parmenter at (941) 757-2900 ext. 261 or email pparmenter@elc-manatee.org.

Upcoming Classes

Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Practitioners
Monday Jul 24, 2017 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This course is an introduction to “what you need to know” to be an early care and education practitioner.  The knowledge and skills needed in the classrooms or caregiving areas are divided into seven Core Knowledge Areas: Health, Safety and Nutrition; Child Development and Learning; Building Family and Community Relationships; Teaching and Learning Environments and Interactions; Curriculum; Observing, Documenting, Screening, and Assessing to Support Young Children and Their Families; and, Professionalism.  The Core Knowledge Areas are subdivided into tiers of knowledge and skills that build upon one another as new knowledge and skills are gained.  They should not be tied to any particular job or position of employment.  They do provide an opportunity for practitioners to self-assess to measure their own levels of knowledge and skills in each Core Knowledge Area.  They may also be used as a guide to identify specific areas of knowledge and skills for future professional development.  This is one of the two basic requirements to enter the Florida Professional Development Registry (to be introduced statewide late summer or early fall 2017).

Register by Thursday July 20 with the $5.00 registration fee. Manatee County QRIS and Performance Funding Project participants and applicants are FREE.
