MANATEE COUNTY ELC BOARD MEMBERS HONORED AS OUTSTANDING DIRECTORS OF 2016!

Palmetto, Florida, October 10, 2016 – The Board of the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County, Inc. (ELC) has been honored with the 2016 Outstanding Directors Award by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. The Tampa Bay Business Journal recognizes Tampa Bay-based 501(c)(3), non-foundation community organizations benefiting residents of the eight counties in the Greater Tampa Bay Metro Area, who are fiscally responsible and accountable with regard to program outcomes.

LAKEWOOD RANCH COMMUNITY FUND AWARDS $1500 GRANT FOR RAISING A READER PROGRAM IN MANATEE COUNTY!

The ELC of Manatee County has been awarded a $1500 grant from the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation. The grant is for the continued implementation of the nationally renowned "Raising a Reader" program, whose network offers an evidence-based early literacy and parent engagement program that has demonstrated improvement in the reading readiness skills of children from birth to age five.

RAYS BASEBALL FOUNDATION AWARDS $5,000 GRANT TO THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION FOR EARLY STEPS TO SCHOOL SUCCESS PROGRAM IN MANATEE COUNTY

Palmetto, Florida, July 22, 2016 – The Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Manatee County, Inc. has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Rays Baseball Foundation to provide books for the Raising A Reader component of its new Early Steps to School Success (ESSS) program. The Raising A Reader materials will provide 50 children and their parents with 100 award-winning books to read at home during this school year. The books will then be recirculated among 50 additional families over the next four years servicing a total of 250 children.

FLORIDA WINEFEST & AUCTION AWARDS $8,000 GRANT TO THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION FOR EARLY LITERACY PROGRAM IN MANATEE COUNTY

The grant is for implementing the nationally renowned "Raising a Reader" program, whose network offers an evidence-based early literacy and parent engagement program that has demonstrated improvement in the reading readiness skills of children from birth to age five.

RECENT CHANGES IN VPK ELIGIBILITY!!

As of July 1st, 2016 a new law will extend VPK eligibility for 4-year-olds with birthdays from February 2nd-September 1st in a calendar year. Parents now have the option to enroll their child in the state's FREE Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) education program that year OR wait until the following year when their child is 5.

SAVE THE CHILDREN ARRIVES IN MANATEE COUNTY!

Save the Children’s Early Steps to School Success program lays a critical foundation of language and literacy skills for children from birth to age 5, so they can enter school ready to succeed. Through home visits, book exchanges, parenting groups, and an emphasis on transition to school, Early Steps Early Childhood Coordinators will help children with language, social and emotional development, and equip parents with the skills needed to successfully support children’s growth. The Early Learning Coalition will focus on the families in the Palmetto area employing a regional school district approach to reach the neediest families at the area’s six elementary schools and 16 child care facilities.
